Christopher Bruce for Hush
(Rambert Dance Company)
As one of Britain’s leading choreographers, Christopher Bruce has enjoyed an outstanding career as a dancer, choreographer and director. In 2009 his four-decades-long association with Rambert was renewed when his “Hush” (first staged for Houston Ballet) entered the repertoire. “Hush”, set to an album of the same name recorded by Bobby McFerrin and Yo-Yo Ma in 1992, uses a circus metaphor to celebrate the family. This affecting and tender dance showcases each member, with humour for the youngest siblings and a certain poignancy for the parents.

Itzik Galili for A Linha Curva
(Rambert Dance Company)
The Israeli choreographer Itzik Galili has been based in The Netherlands since 1991, where he founded his own company. In 1997 the Dutch Ministry of Culture nominated him as artistic director of a new company with public funding, NND/Galili Dance. Galili has created work for his own companies and for the Stuttgart Ballet, Netherlands Dance Theatre and Finnish National Ballet among many others. He is nominated for his high-energy, large-scale piece "A Linha Curva" for Rambert Dance Company.

Lloyd Newson and DV8 Dancers for To Be Straight With You
(DV8 Physical Theatre)
Lloyd Newson and DV8 Physical Theatre are nominated for their current production, "To Be Straight With You", an exploration of homophobia in text and movement. Seen on tour and at the National Theatre the evening contains virtuoso performances from its highly talented multi-ethnic cast displaying a range of highly individual talents. The piece is passionate, poetic and sometimes unflinchingly brutal, but is one of the most provocative and honest pieces to be seen on any stage.
