Wayne McGregor
for Chroma
(The Royal Ballet)

Recently appointed Resident Choreographer of the Royal Ballet, Wayne McGregor is nominated for Chroma, a minimalist work for ten dancers, with music by Joby Talbot, set designs by John Pawson, lighting by Lucy Carter and costumes by Moritz Junge. Chroma was a huge popular and critical success when it was premiered by the Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House in November 2006 and afforded exciting new opportunities to leading dancers of the Company.

Alexei Ratmansky
for Le Corsaire
(Bolshoi Ballet)

Alexei Ratmansky's new staging for the Bolshoi Ballet in 2007 was the highlight of the company's summer season at the London Coliseum. Petipa's 19th-century pirate comedy was reborn in this production, as Ratmansky and Yuri Burlaka reverted to Petipa’s last staging of Le Corsaire in St Petersburg in 1899. Working from notated choreographic scores, they retrieved, interpreted and embellished Petipa's grand vision, honouring the past while making it speak to a modern audience.

Christopher Wheeldon
DGV (Dance ŕ grande vitesse)
(The Royal Ballet)

Christopher Wheeldon, with his recently announced departure as resident choreographer at New York City Ballet, is now in demand around the world more than ever. He has set his new ballet DGV (Dance ŕ grande vitesse) to a score by Michael Nyman. The composer wrote the music to celebrate the inauguration of the TGV in France, and Wheeldon has created a fine work which reflects the dynamism, constant movement and shifting scenery which is part of such a journey.
